An in-game bug in Overwatch 2 pushes players to purchase skins they don’t want. Players who unintentionally made shop purchases while using in-game chat have reportedly been denied refunds by Blizzard, although the company has fixed the problem.
What is the Overwatch 2 Auto-Skin Purchase Bug?
According to the Overwatch subreddit forum, when players chat with some pals while perusing the hero gallery, the game unexpectedly begins unlocking Junnker Queen’s Plutonium skin. Players reported the issue to Blizzard’s support, but the developer informed them they would not receive a refund.
The bug has since been fixed, which suggests that Blizzard agrees with the theory that it was caused by “a bug where text typed into the chat is occasionally misinterpreted by the game [as] input for navigating the menu.”
Although the patch released on October 7 appears to have fixed the problem, the Redditors claim they have still not received their refund and doubt they will ever get it. “The Plutonium skin is only worth 300 legacy credits, so ultimately it’s not a big deal, but I’m rather disappointed that they won’t issue refunds for it,” a Redditor wrote. “Though not surprised.”
A similar bug was spotted earlier in the year on Fall Guys. The Fall Guys auto-buy bug originally appeared when players found that simply previewing an item could result in an in-game purchase due to the game’s lack of a purchase confirmation option. Usually, players would have to confirm their purchase after the preview, but they now claim that their in-game currency was ‘stolen’ without their consent in exchange for items. Reddit players started spreading the problem last week.
