As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Pamela Adlon is making her film feature-length directorial debut. The untitled pregnancy-themed comedy will be written by Broad City writers Ilana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz. Glazer, who stars and directs on top of her writing duties for Broad City, will star in the untitled film.
Plot details are under wraps. What is known is that Glazer will play Eden, a woman who gets pregnant after a one-night stand goes to her best friend Dawn, played by Michelle Buteau (First Wives Club). Dawn is a married mother of two who will guide her friend through her pregnancy.
Production for the directorial debut of Pamela Adlon will begin in July in New York City. Glazer, Rabinowitz, Susie Fox, and Ashley Fox (unrelated) are producing the project. U.S. sales are taken care of by FilmNation, Range Media Partners, and CAA Media Finance. FilmNation will also handle the international side of things.
Pamela Adlon Directorial Debut in Pregnancy-Themed Comedy
Before setting out to make a feature for a directorial debut, Pamela Adlon has mostly been known for her voice acting work. Most notably, she was Bobby Hill in King of the Hill, along with other characters in the Mike Judge series. Other voice acting credits include Rick and Morty, Phineas and Ferb, Teen Titans Go!, and Bob’s Burgers.
The Emmy winner has done plenty of live-action roles too. She starred in Louie, This Is Us, and Better Things. She co-created Better Things with Louis C.K., where Pamela Adlon made her proper directorial debut on the small screen while also writing and starring in the series. After sexual misconduct came out about C.K., he was fired from the series. Adlon supported the victims and ended up continuing the series without her partner in creating the series.
Currently, the King of the Hill actress is filming Jodie. She stars in the film with Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), Zosia Mamet (The Flight Attendant), and Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding).
