Independent Polish developer Paradark Studio announced today The Exekiller, a single-player action-adventure western decked out in retro-futurist and cyberpunk garb. The Exekiller is set for release on PC.
Peddling a dystopian alternate reality where a globe-spanning blaze, known as the Great Fire Disaster, has extinguished much of life on earth, The Exekiller drops us into New York, circa 1998, one of the few remaining regions still hospitable to humans. Corporations rule a land run into the ground by rampant anarchy and pervasive chaos. Cast as the titular Exekiller, a gruff bounty hunter, you must seek out a biochip component called S.O.U.L.S. No ordinary piece of futuristic tech, S.O.U.L.S can control minds and harvest data when implanted.
With The Exekiller‘s vast open world scattered with canyons and radioactive fields to explore aboard hover-cars and jazzed up by a day-night cycle, radioactive sun storms, and more dynamic weather, you’ll carve a player-driven story where choices matter. These affect not just how the narrative unfolds but how you approach and play through each situation. In The Exekiller, you’ll hunt outlaws, dishing out justice or mercy as you see fit, dip into a stacked arsenal of weaponry and gadgets, or use your wits to sweet talk yourself out of a tight spot, and even adopt stealthy tactics to circumvent enemies.
Retro-Futurism Meets Westerns in The Exekiller
As Paradark Studio CEO Amadeusz Wróbel explains, the developer took a penchant for sci-fi, cyberpunk, retro-futurism, westerns, and post-apocalyptic themes and merged them to create The Exekiller. Though this is Paradark Studio’s first effort, the above trailer hints at a game worth keeping a weather eye on.
From what we can gather, Paradark currently has no plans to release the game on any platform other than PC. There’s no word on a specific The Exekiller release date for the moment. The newly-minted Steam listing states simply ‘When it’s ready.’
