Marvel has plenty of plans unveiled for the next few years, but plenty of empty spaces are occupying its timeline. According to Patton Oswalt, Eternals 2 will fill one of those gaps. When speaking on The Today Show, he revealed that it is happening with Chloe Zhao returning to direct the film.

In one of the post-credit scenes in Eternals, Patton Oswalt made a cameo as Pip with his companion Starfox, played by Harry Styles, who was revealed to be Thanos’ brother. On top of that, to back up the sequel claim, the text saying “Eternals will return,” like many Marvel movies that say X character will come back, is another piece of evidence that this could happen.

Patton Oswalt seemingly confirms Eternals 2 is happening

While Patton Oswalt talked about Eternals 2, Marvel producer Nate Moore said last year it was not a “must-have” for a sequel. With the MCU being so vast, the studio could tell more stories with the characters without a titled movie for them. As the cosmic side grows with The Marvels and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming next year, they could make an appearance anywhere.

At SDCC, Marvel unveiled trailers for upcoming projects and details about Phases 5 and 6. Phase 5 seemed fairly clear, although the studio is known for making drastic changes after these reveals. Phase 6 only contained a handful of projects with Fantastic Four and two Avengers movies. If Patton Oswalt is correct, Eternals 2 would fit nicely between 2024 and 2025.

Eternals was a divisive entry into the MCU. It holds the lowest Rotten Tomatoes rating out of any movie in the franchise. The film’s pacing, different tone, and a plethora of new characters to know in a single film hindered its success. With its representation, visuals, star-studded cast, and other positive qualities, it garnered some fans who supported it. If a sequel comes, it will be interesting to see how Marvel takes the critiques to possibly improve upon the 2019 film.
