10 Chambers Collective, the development studio behind GTFO, has rapidly risen over the years. The team is comprised mainly of former Overkill Software developers, run by the game designer behind Payday, CEO Ulf Andersson. 10 Chambers Collective rose to prominence when GTFO launched to widespread success in Steam Early Access back in 2019. The game would then go on to exit Early Access in 2021. While GTFO brought back many gameplay mechanics familiar to Payday fans, its high skill ceiling ultimately attracted a different audience. However, Andersson was quick to assure more casually-minded Payday fans they’ve not been forgotten.
Returning To The Payday Formula
In an interview with NME, Andersson noted his lengthy departure from the Payday series: “It feels like it’s an unclosed chapter, right?” Ulf reflects, “I gotta do that properly.” To that end, Andersson openly confirmed that a new Payday-inspired heist FPS game is in development: “For me, this game is a game that just has to be made. It’s a heist cooperative FPS, and it has a sort of techno-thriller theme. I read a lot of sci-fi books, and so imagine everything that cyberpunk is inspired by[.].” Andersson later clarified that players could expect the upcoming game to have other influences as well.
10 Chambers Collective Moving Away From Hardcore Tactical Gameplay
Andersson clarified that this upcoming heist game would more closely resemble Payday’s casual co-op approach, as opposed to GTFO’s tactical nature. “it’s not gonna have that hardcore thing to it. It is more mechanically smooth, or you could say, easier to play.”
For fans hoping to see a release date unveiled soon, Andersson indicates such news is still a long way off.
However, patience is a trait many GTFO fans have gradually learned.
