Peacock has officially announced that the first episode of The Resort, a comedy-thriller series starring Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper, will be premiering on NBC Wednesday after the results of America’s Got Talent. Peacock and NBC executives hope that moving the show to a primetime slot on NBC will raise awareness for the show, which was released to Peacock on July 28th.
The Resort stars William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) and Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Noah and Emma, a married couple, on an anniversary trip to the Bahia del Paraiso, a luxury resort in Mexico. However, per the show description, their marriage is “put to the test” when Noah and Emma find themselves smack in the middle of “one of the Yucatan’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries that took place fifteen years prior.” Described by Deadline as a “multi-generational, coming-of-age love story disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time,” The Resort’s first three episodes premiered on Peacock on July 28th, 2022. They will be followed by weekly episodes until the season finale on September 1st. The Resort’s pilot episode, “The Disappointment of Time,” will premiere on NBC on August 24th at 9/8c, after America’s Got Talent.
Behind the Decision to Put ‘The Resort’ on NBC
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s new timeslot was chosen strategically so that the AGT audiences would stick around for The Resort and raise awareness about the show. Lisa Katz, NBC Universal Television executive, is quoted as saying:
The Resort is written by showrunner and executive producer Andy Siara, previously responsible for Palm Springs (2020), starring Andy Samberg. Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) also serves as an executive producer along with Chad Hamilton for Esmail Corp., Allison Miller, and Sarah Matte. The Resort is produced by UCP for Universal Studio Group.
The Resort starring Cristin Milioti, William Jackson Harper, Nick Offerman, Skyler Gisondo, and Luis Gerardo Méndez will premiere on NBC on August 24th at 9/8c. The rest of the show is currently available on Peacock, with new episodes released weekly.
