Peaky Blinders is coming to an end after its sixth season, which just began production, according to The Hollywood Reporter. BBC started airing the series in 2013. It reached wider audiences and mass acclaim after Netflix acquired US distribution rights in 2014 from The Weinstein Company. The series, created by Steven Knight, has become one of BBC’s most popular dramas. It won BAFTA Television Craft Awards for Direction and Photography & Lighting in 2014 and a BAFTA for Best Drama Series in 2018.

Peaky Blinders follows the Shelby crime family as they rise to prominence in early 1900s Birmingham, England. Led by their savage boss Tommy Shelby, the members of the gang sew razor blades into the peaks of their caps.

What’s Next for Peaky Blinders?

While the series is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean the story is. In a statement, Knight had this to say:

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach echoed those sentiments. In her own statement, she thanked the show’s fans, praised Knight’s scripts, and stated that “the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on.” How the story will continue is unclear. Knight has spoken about spin-offs and a possible film in the past. The show received a companion book in 2019 with behind-the-scenes interviews and photos. Though continuing the story through novels could be a logical next step. Additionally, a puzzle adventure game titled Peaky Blinders: Mastermind was released last August.
