Marvel has teased a new Captain Carter series featuring Peggy Carter behind the iconic shield. Captain Carter, the character recently seen in Marvel’s What If… series, will take center stage in Captain Carter #1. Jamie McKelvie and Marika Cresta will be behind the five-issue limited run that sees Carter reporting for duty in a whole new look. A trailer for the series just debuted, showing off what Carter will be up to later this year.

What Can We Expect From Captain Carter?

The Captain Carter series is an upcoming five-issue limited run kicking off on March 9.  It will introduce the world to Peggy Carter as the “woman out of time.”  As Carter adjusts to life in the modern world, she will soon be challenged by an old foe. This foe will force Carter to reevaluate who she is and what it means to wield the shield.

Speaking to SYFY WIRE earlier this week, writer Mckelvie shared his excitement for the Captain Carter series. He spoke on how Peggy Carter is such a different Captain to Rogers and how he approached her as a character:

“It’s almost 80 years since the end of World War II. That’s a big difference to the 20 years Steve Rogers was in the ice in the original comics timeline. It’s a huge gap, and so much has changed since then. Even the decade since MCU Cap woke up has seen a lot of big shifts in the world. So that’s immediately exciting to me –– how do you deal with waking up in such a radically different world, with every anchor in your life long gone?”

What Does the Trailer Show?

The new comic trailer offers a small taste of what readers can expect. It shows scenes of Peggy Carter from her days in World War II and flashes to her kicking butt in the modern world. The phrase “Keep Calm and Call Captain Carter” is boldly presented while Carter fights thugs and villains. Plus, her new suit is front and center for the world to see. This Captain Carter series is looking to fill the Peggy-shaped hole left by the Agent Carter series.

Mckelvie is joined by Star Wars: Doctor Aphra artist Marika Cresta to bring Peggy Carter to life. The full comic will debut on March 9.
