NPD Sales data for June 2015 is in and the PlayStation 4 continues its dominance in console sales, while Rocksteady’s Batman: The Arkham Knight was the best selling game of the month.  Both hardware and software sales were up on year on year basis, at upticks of 8% and 18% respectively.

PlayStation 4 sales were likely bolstered by consumers purchasing the Arkham Knight PS4 Bundle.  Sony says the bundle had “overwhelming popularity” last month.  The PlayStation 4 hardware has been dominant in 2015 and during the near two years its been on store shelves.  Microsoft has only managed to wrestle the NPD crown away from Sony a handful of months.  Sony and the PlayStation 4 continue to lead consoles sales in the United States and worldwide.

Microsoft’s efforts on year on year basis were also quite good.  June sales for the Xbox One were up over 50 percent from 2014. While the company also says that Xbox Live continues to see growth and engagement.  Nintendo also saw growth year over year, lumping the Wii U and 3DS together to see a 20 percent increase over June ’14.  Nintendo attributes most of this growth to the Nintendo 3DS and the momentum created by the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS XL.

In software, Batman: Arkham Knight was the top seller.  Followed by The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, Lego: Jurassic World, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Splatoon to round out the top five.  The bottom five saw some familiar faces with Minecraft, GTA V, Mortal Kombat X, NBA 2K15, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare completing the top ten.  NPD Software sales only take into account new physical copies of games sold at retail.
