New consoles, same issues? It seems many users of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are reporting various issues.
Last week was a week that had been earmarked on many gamer’s calendars for some time. The launch of both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. However, the days that have followed these next-gen console’s releases have been littered with bad news and issues. These issues have ranged from small expected glitches to potentially console breaking problems.
PlayStation 5
The Playstation 5 has so far had more problems reported than the Xbox Series X.
Downloading Issues
Several players reported that their system would stop downloading games from the PlayStation Store but are unable to restart the download process. In fact, some people with this issue are reporting that while the system recognizes that they do own that game, the PlayStation Store is trying to resell it to them. Sony is aware of these issues and working on resolving them.
Game Crashes
Some users have gone to the PS5 subreddit reporting that putting the system in rest mode while playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales can lead to bricked consoles. This issue was also experienced by Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann. As of now, it is best to not use the PS5 rest mode and just turn off your console completely between play sessions.
Xbox Series X
While the Xbox Series X has reported fewer problems than the PlayStation5, the severity of the issues being experienced are potentially far more console breaking.
Disc Insert Issues
Systems Shutting Down
There have been many reports that are still coming in of the Xbox Series X flat out shutting down. Currently, this phenomenon tends to be reported only when booting up a game. There is currently no trend in terms of what game causes shut downs as it has been reported with several different games. Microsoft has yet to issue any statement here. Hopefully, this is a console issue that can be fixed with a system patch.
Conclusion
It is important to recognize that no console launches without issues, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are no different. Thankfully, most of this will be fixed in the coming weeks. However, the issues we brought up today do have the potential to cause bigger problems than we would want on a next-gen console.
