PlayStation 5 brought amazing features we haven’t seen in the past generation. The console was also improved for better online gaming, and it had a bunch of optimizations. But there was a missing feature that we asked for since its release. We’re talking about the low latency feature, it was only available on Xbox consoles to fix the input lag problem, and now PlayStation 5 is getting similar support.

Wireless controllers cause latency due to their nature. The latency was decreased with the new generation, but we still needed optimizations due to the input lag complaints. Finally, Sony announced a system update to improve the low latency feature.

PlayStation 5 Finally Gets a Low Latency Feature

If you had an Xbox before, you might remember the low latency feature. It helps to decrease the latency and the input lag. Especially on multiplayer games, that feature is a game-changer. DualSense controllers were already optimized to have a faster response, but Sony is moving to the next step.

The announcement of the feature was pretty quiet; they mentioned the feature named ALLM (Auto Low-Latency Mode) in the update notes. ALLM is the only feature coming with July 7’s system update, except for the minor bug fixes. You need to download the latest system update, which is around 1GB.

PlayStation 5’s low latency feature is a big deal because most new generation TVs started supporting low input lag support. TV manufacturers are also focused on improving gaming performance these days. When they combine it with that new feature that appeared on PS5, the performance is even better for online gamers.

You need a TV that supports the ALLM features to use it. If you’re sure about the support of your TV, go to the settings in your PlayStation 5 and check the options on the Video Output page.
