We have seen a few leaked images of the PlayStation 5 dev kit, in the early hours of this morning someone claiming to be a cleaner stumbled onto a dev kit and chucked some photos up on Reddit. Notably, the controller does not have the built-in microphone, or back paddles that have been rumored, but does have a larger touchpad.
This is a dev kit meaning it is not likely to reflect the retail model. The same can be said for the controller, maybe the built-in microphone and back paddles will be added later.
Piers Harding-Rolls of IHS Markit Technology made 11 predictions about gaming in 2019, getting only one prediction wrong. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, he said he expects both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 to sell more at launch than their predecessors.
Furthermore, Mark Cerny, the PlayStation 5 system architect confirmed that the console will have backward compatibility for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles due to their architecture similarity. And a new report from HipHopGamer states that the PlayStation 5 will be able to run games from even older generations due to a “remastering engine”, apparently that includes PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games.
Despite the piles of work, multiple analysists including Piers Harding-Rolls believe the Nintendo Switch will be the best selling console of 2020.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is[are?] set to launch holiday 2020, it is likely that both consoles will retail for around $500, despite early rumors they would cost upwards of $1000. There are also floods of rumors about Nintendo launch a Nintendo Switch Pro sometime this year. This is predicted to have improved hardware and some analysts believe it will even support 4K gaming, though not likely on the go.
