The PlayStation VR headset sounds like it could be quite expensive if it’s going to be around the same price as a new video games console.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Andrew House, hinted while talking with Bloomberg that the PlayStation VR device could be priced at around £350. This is pretty much around the same price as a new console these days.
House also expects the device will launch with around 10 titles when it comes out in 2016. It was announced today that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will be one of those games that will be utilizing the VR headset.
Price is important in order for consumers to embrace new technology like this. Whether or not existing PS4 owners want to shell out £350 on the PlayStation VR headset too remains to be seen. Gaming peripherals are usually priced lower than the console itself, not around the same range.
VR is said to take gaming by storm in 2016 as the Oculus Rift will also be released by then too. It will be interesting to see if VR is able to become mainstream, or if it’s just going to be a niche market catering to only a small number of gamers.
