The Pokémon Go 6th anniversary celebration is kicking off, and it comes with several new Timed Research tasks. As usual, these can reward you with cool goodies to use in-game. For one of these in Pokémon Go, you must battle another trainer using your Buddy. There are a handful of ways to approach this, and we’ll walk you through them all so you can nail this task and move along.
Battle Another Trainer with Your Buddy in Pokémon Go
The specific Timed Research task you want here is:
- Battle another Trainer with your Buddy Pokémon while it’s adventuring.
It seems simple enough, but there’s the potential for issues to crop up.
First, you must choose a Buddy Pokémon for your upcoming battle. Look to your bottom-left corner of the screen and tap the Trainer icon. Afterward, you want to select the Buddy icon and then choose your Pokémon.
Things don’t stop there, though. Now, you must feed your Buddy 3 Berries. This is the only way to fill up their hunger meter, so they walk around with you on the map.
Now that we’re adventuring, we can take on the task. You can battle a Team Leader with your Pokémon Buddy in training. It can count, but some players claim that the task doesn’t always show up as completed with this method.
In that case, you still have options at your disposal. Head to Go Battle League, as this will match you with a trainer from around the world. Alternatively, you can use nearby battle to find a closer Trainer for your Buddy Pokémon.
Perhaps the easiest way to finish this task is to use a friend. With a Best Friend or Ultra Friend, you can start a battle with them remotely no matter where you are in the world.
Remember: winning isn’t necessary. You simply have to engage in the battle with your Buddy, and the task is complete.
