Fans of Sony’s original PlayStation Console have been left heartbroken following an announcement from the publisher of the video game Square Enix. Square Enix officially announced their new NFT Collectible Art Project, Symbiogenesis. The report caught PS1 owners who had been expecting a different announcement off-guard.

Symbiogenesis and PS1 Owners Expectations

Some leaks surfaced on social media platforms a few weeks ago regarding Square Enix’s upcoming activities. According to the rumours, the company was preparing to revive an older franchise working on PS1 for over 20 years.

The leak started when fans identified a new trademark, Symbiogenesis, on Square Enix. Since there wasn’t any official communication, fans presumed the term to be correlated to one of Square Enix’s games.

The community got busy finding the meaning of Symbiogenesis and how it would impact players. During this search, some fans emerged with what seemed as a more probable meaning. The players had established that Symbiogenesis had some common features to a PS1 game, Parasite Eve Story.

Ultimately, many players agreed that Symbiogenesis meant the revival of Parasite Eve Story. For this reason, PS1 owners have been anxiously waiting for an announcement that would favor them by reenlisting an old game that was once highly regarded.

Although this leak has been sharing hope for some fans, it later emerged that the rumor was misguided. Square Enix today has shared what Symbiogenesis truly is to the company. According to the franchise producer, the term describes an NFT project with which the company works.

On the same note, the announcement shows that Symbiogenesis is not related to the Square Enix gaming industry. This realization has crushed the dreams that several owners of PS1 consoles were holding.

Symbiogenesis will be live in the spring of 2023, with only a few details released. However, the project will not unveil any new game, nor will it be reviving any game from the past. Unfortunately, the disassociation is leaving fans displeasure.
