Sony recently pushed the latest update out for PlayStation 3 players.   Firmware update 4.45 apparently had some issues.  PS3 users who were quick to download the new firmware have found that their systems have become bricks upon updating, and Sony has yet to officially issue a fix for the problem.

The system update is no longer required to access online content, and it’s expected that Sony will reissue a fixed version of the update in short order.   As for those that have been affected by the firmware update that bricked your system,  there’s no fix from Sony just yet.

According to reports from the PlayStation Community, the majority of those that were affected were using a third party HDD.  Unfortunately, Sony isn’t saying anything about the bricked systems.  The solution right now is to just wait it out.  It’s expected that Sony will issue an update soon that will fix the issue.
